Emily asked if we would share some book recommendations on this blog as well. Here's my first one (and I've added the label of "good books" so that if anyone else posts books, they'll be easy to find). It came back to me as I was watching a news story tonight about Auschwitz. What a fascinating, horrible time period.
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne
I understand it is also a movie, but I have not seen it. The book is from a different perspective than other novels you will read about the Holocaust. It'll be in the teen or juvenile fiction section at the library.
Other good books I've read about the same period of history (all of these are teen fiction):
The Book Thief- Markus Zusak
Anne Frank and Me-Cherie Bennett
The Devil's Arithmatic-Jane Yolen (VERY VERY GOOD!)
Briar Rose-Jane Yolen
Have you read any good books about the Holocaust?

The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom is the only Holocaust book I remember reading. It is an amazing story, as it is told from someone who actually experienced the holocaust. I am eager to read The Boy in Striped Pajamas though. Thanks Beth for all the recommendations!
ReplyDeleteOur book club in Phoenix did The Hiding Place the month after we moved!! Maybe we should read that sometime for ours-I don't remember it very well since I read it in the 7th grade or something. That was just a couple of years ago....
